Instructors: Dana and Shinichi Iova-Koga
Dana and Shinichi provide a personal guidance into Butoh, based on the meeting points of thier own backgrounds and that of the participants.
Within the workshop, improvisational training, imagistic guidance and physical precision are offered as part of the process of finding a singular and open expression of Butoh.
Deconstructions and provocative compositions develop the skills and perspectives that each participant can fold into their own practice.
About the Instructors:
Dana spent several years in Japan, dancing and farming with Min Tanaka’s company Tokason. She is part of the Body Weather lineage and remains deeply informed by that practice.
Shinichi regularly shifts the lens on Butoh through incorporating contrasting practices such as Daoist Internal Arts and Action Theater. His foundation in Butoh dance began with Hiroko and Koichi Tamano (1991-1995) as a member of Harupin-Ha, Yumiko Yoshioka (1996-2004) as a full time live-in member of TEN PEN CHii and Ko Murobushi as a Co-Director of Crazy Cloud (2008-2012).
