Yang Sheng Gong
Yang Sheng Gong includes a series of physical exercises designed to soften the body, develop functional flexibility and promote general health by increasing the power of the immune system, strengthening connective tissue, tendons and joints and increasing the flow of Qi, blood and subtle fluids. Lung resiliency develops through breath exercises (Tu Gu Na Xin). Standing meditation postures help cultivate internal energy and regulation of the mind and consciousness by uniting movement and stillness.
Yang Sheng Gong reduces stress, tension and anxiety; celebrates breath; opens brachial pathways; clears stagnation; expels toxins; develops balance and coordination; oxygenates the muscles; promotes healthy organ function; regulates the nervous system.
Shinichi Iova-Koga
A normal human can exist with vibrancy, ease and resilience. Let’s be this normal human. Health connects many aspects of our lives. Beyond basic mechanical body function exists a web of connecting factors that include community, food, livelihood and family.
In April 2015, I found fortune by participating in a You Sheng Gong (swimming body skill) workshop led by David Wei. I noted his humor and robustness. This, in combination with his skill, convinced me to study with him.
Though I teach other practices outside of the Wudang West context, I continue to find value in the practices that bring us immediate benefit, promoting circulation and mobility.
Every day, I experience gratitude for these arts and the teachers who entrust me to pass them on.
